Formerly known as the Athens Classic Marathon they have changed name in recent years to reflect the marathons legendary status. The village of Marathon is the birthplace of all marathons, and dates back 2500+ years. This legendary course it is a must for every marathon runner. The route is hilly and challenging and starts near the sea at the village of Marathon and ends in the spectacular Panathinaikos Stadium in Athens. Panathinaikos Stadium was built entirely in white marble for the first modern Olympics in 1896. The marble stadium is located on the same spot where remains of an ancient stadium used for the original Olympic Games in ancient Greece were excavated.
